Owning Houses and Property
Thailand is a great country to settle down in. The Kingdom has a pleasant climate, reasonable prices, beautiful nature, wonderful beaches and people who are easy to get along with.
Foreigners and foreign companies are actually not allowed to own a direct interest in land in Thailand, with one exception from this rule, you are able to own a apartment or a condominium unit. However there are a few other legal options to purchase properties such as houses and villas.
1. A company (with a majority of Thai ownership) is allowed to own property.
2. If you have a Thai partner, he or she might be the owner of your property.
3. You will be able to lease a property for period of 30 years. This period is renewable so in reality a 60 year leasehold is possible, if the land owner agrees. But do always consult a lawyer or a serious real estate broker before any contracts are signed.
