Dive around the Islands
On Koh Samui and Koh Tao you will find some of the best diving sites in the Southeast Asia region. The largest concentration of diving operators are found at Sairee Beach (Koh Tao), Bophut Beach (Koh Samui)and Chaweng Beach (Koh Samui). You can also go on a daily dive trip to Angthong National Marine Park and popular Sail Rock. Whale sharks can be spotted here. The water is rich in colorful corals and has an impressive fish life.
There are also a few operators and schools found in the island of Koh Phangan.
Try to find a school with experienced instructors. Many of these are listed at the PADI website. We have also listed some of them in the column to the right.
If you are a beginner or advanced doesn't matter. There are courses for everyone. If you are diligent and have plenty of time, you can study intensively and receive one of these diving qualifications: Scuba Diver, Adventure Diver, Advanced Diver, Divemaster, or Rescue Diver.
If you don't have that much time, join a short-term course to learn the basics. You can rent all equipment you'll need, or buy some of it at the school or in scuba diving shops.
The climate is good for scuba diving, but it might be a little windy in October, November and December so the visibility is not always good then. Further information about the weather and the climate in this region is found here.

Snorkeling and more
Snorkeling around Samui can be a wonderful experience, when the visibility is good. You will find all the equipment at the diving schools, or (if you looking for something basic) in a super market. We would definitely recommend you to spend a few baht extra for better quality and safer equipment. A mask made of silicon is often a little more expensive than one made of rubber or plastic, but it will probably last much longer.
Book your snorkeling trip in any diving school or at one of the travel agencies found on the islands, or directly with us. We recommend you to try a snorkeling trip to Angthong National Marine Park or a weekend (or more) on the beautiful island of Koh Tao.
Kayaking and windsurfing is fun and also a great way to get in good shape. You can rent the equipment on the most popular beaches or at many of the resorts on the islands. Jet Skis aren't as good exercise but fun anyway. Please pay a little attention while driving one though, so you don't hit a swimmer.

Contact a Diving School
There are many professional operators and licensed instructors on these islands. Most of them are originally from Europe, New Zealand, Australia or North America. For further information about diving on Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan and other destinations in Thailand, please try the links to the right and contact one or a few schools. They will probably provide you with the information you need.
Respect Marine Resources
"Take only photos, leave only bubbles" is a wise motto. When diving or snorkeling near a coral reef, please do not touch or collect anything. Let coming generations enjoy diving in this area too. Coral reefs don't get rebuilt, if destroyed. Also shells and other natural sea objects belongs to the oceans.
However, to collect garbage from the sea and the beaches is definitely a very honorable act. Please be wise and care about the environment. It is our children's world and future too.
Take only photos, leave only bubbles!
