A Smooth Day

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Tuesday, Mars 09, 2010

What a sweet day, and it is not with irony I say that. Yesterday I could not stay away from the computer, problems cannot be left but have to be solved, and actually I did solve the task I tried so I could go to bed in a non furious mode. Late in the evening we picked, only, 20 ticks from Nala and also gave her a tick and flea bath. We will soon see what the today tick count will be. Hopefully only a few.

Today I have been able to work all day long and after 12 hours, almost non stop work, my eyes are kind of tired and I think it is good that I have to take Nala for a few walks to get away from the computer a little. The weather is still very hot in the days and it will probably be even more hot next month. Yesterday I even managed to get my arms red during my trip to Chaweng and back. A trip that does not take very long which mean the sun really is string now. However the evenings are back to being refreshing and almost a little cold. I think that is kind of nice. Even if it is close to 30 degrees it feel much colder.

Our friend Black has spent the day with us, laying on the porch and he went home late in the evening. He must be laying around on his yard peaking through the palm tree forest because we had not walked far when he came running, wanting to tag along at our night walk.

Yesterday was the last day of the market at the Lamai temple, in the evening when we went shopping they had almost cleaned up around the temple and was burning garbage in big oil drums all over the area. Even if we only spent very little time during the days of the market it is nice to have some things going on. Just strolling around was kind of nice and as I said before there were a whole lot of people, not least at Sunday when the area was completely filled with Thais and a few white and red faces.

Ticks x 100

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Monday, Mars 08, 2010

Today everything has been a mess. After I had been to Chaweng to buy some things we forgot yesterday I finally could start working. The online database I am working with drove me crazy by saving only parts of thing and sometimes nothing and during the afternoon I ended up doing the same work I could have done in half an hour when things are not strange like this. Not only that this took my energy, but I was already tired before since yesterday we spent from midnight and two hours to remove ticks from Nala. She is getting a huge amount of ticks only by entering the bush for a few seconds making the nr 1 and nr 2. Yesterday we counted them to be between 80 and 100 which is so much it is wicked. Most of them were really small and was sitting on the paws. But this many! It is ridiculous.

The last mornings we have noticed that there are ticks in the bed when we wake up, nasty, YES. So therefor we have been more careful to remove ticks in the evening. This morning we still had three fed up ticks laying in the bed. Nala has short brown and white hair and as I said, she is not spending more than a few minutes in the grass or small bushes during one day. Looking at Black who has long black and brown hair would guess he has at least 500 of them. This is the first time I have encountered anything like this. When we lived on northern Samui for a few years ago we had no such problem, neither on Phuket. We will definitely get one of those anti tick collars and see if those works.

In the evening when I gave up the work and headed out to get something to eat, I was to frustrated to eat at home but just wanted to get out for a while, we got a flat tire so the dining got a little bit delayed. At the work shop they realized that they were out of inner tubes, but they had already removed the tire and we had to wait for the guy to go shopping. When we finally had got something to eat we went to Tesco to buy the standard things for Nuis coffee but Tesco where out of sugar so we went to 7-eleven and after having checked 3 stores we found one who were not out of stock.

I will do my best to stay away from working more and to get a good night sleep to regain my energy. These things might seem like nothing but all together it drives me crazy, not least the work part. Anyway I thought I could let you know that these small things drive one crazy even on a paradise island like this and I do not know, I might sound as this is a big deal thats not the case. In the heat of the moment it might be but this things are nothing. Tomorrow I will make up with a smile again, and hopefully I can keep smiling a little bit longer than I did today.
