A Blog about the Daily Life on the Tropical Island of Koh Samui

Maenam Walking Street

Text by Aom (Thai woman living in Koh Samui). Photos by Jens W - Thursday, May 30, 2013

Last Thursday I went to the weekly Walking Street Market in Maenam in the north of the island. Of course I had my camera with me and some of the pictures is found below. Personally I think it's one of the best night markets on the island since Maenam is a relatively peaceful place. The beautiful Chinese temple, situated nearby the Maenam pier, is also a beautiful addition in the center of the events. Don't forget your camera!

Another advantage is the mix of food stalls and stalls selling clothes, jewelery, shoes and toys. Prices are low but it can be worthwhile to try to bargain for the most items, except for food. If you want to get a beer or drink, so there's a several small mobile bars in place. If you're hungry, you'll find everything from rotisserie chicken and fried shrimp to pasta and burgers, ie there are both local dishes as well as "international" ones.

Maenams walking street is held every Thursday and will begin in the late afternoon. Sales normally starts just before dusk, or 6 pm. We definitely recommend a visit here, if you are on Samui.
