Feeding Dogs and Exercise at Samui Stadium

Text and Photography by Aom (Thai woman living in Koh Samui) - Sunday, July 15, 2012

Today is my day off. I woke up at 9.30 am and made breakfast. After that I spent about an hour relaxing in front of TV and then I had my brunch and a shower. In the early afternoon I cleaned the house a bit, but time flies and it was already 4 pm, so I prepared myself for going out jogging. You see my day off is full of activities.

Almost every Sunday, me and my husband take our lovely dog (Pandi) out for jogging and feeding the homeless stray dogs at Namuang Park in Southeastern Samui. We left from home at 4.40 pm today, it is quite late compared with before. The reason we were late today, was because the strong sunshine and the temperature was very high. Pandi and I don't like that. Well, I bought a big pack of dogs's food from 7-Eleven. There are at least seven dogs living at the sport stadium without owner, but there are many kind people who bring them some food. So, that why they can survive. Six dogs are female, and I only one is male.

After dropping the car and letting Pandi out, a few dog run to say hello to Pandi and us, and we are happy to see each other again. In about 5 minutes all the dogs are there to eating. Yes,including Pandi who is a jealous dog. I think she is greedy, she just want to have the food by her own. Today, I didn't see a slim dog that I usually see. Where is she? I hope she is still alive. She is a weakest one in that area and she always has to live alone, far away from another, so they don't bite her. When I gave her some food I had to protect her from the other dogs, otherwise they will take her food. I try to look for her but couldn't find her.

After giving food for the dogs, we (my husband, me and Pandi) went jogging around the park for three turns. In round 2 Pandi is getting tired and thirsty, but she ran down to the river for drinking some water and to cool down. Then she can continuce running again. It takes about 40 minutes to finish jogging. Today I see many people who came here to exercise, jogging, walking or biking. 90% are Thais, but there are a few foreigners, including my husband.

The weather was very nice today and the view is so beautiful before sunset. I like to see that Koh Samui has some area for people to exercise and play sports. Well, People is starting to go back when it is getting dark and it was time for us to leave as well. We were almost the last people to leave the park and Pandi is always happy to jump back in the airconditioned car. It's time to end the story for today. I hope you enjoying ready it. Have a nice week!
