Giving Away Presents in School

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Thursday, December 30, 2010

Today we had another day with lots of clouds in the morning and the weather stayed the same all day with parts or the day brighter than others but at least we got no rain. I went a long walk with Nala and Black who dropped off after less than half the walk and got home an hour after us. Guess he was about to visit a friend.

Khun was lucky, the chain on the bike had slipped off when he was on his way home from a friend yesterday and I forgot to fix it right away so Nui drove him to school this morning. He said his legs had sore muscles which is great I think, riding that bike everyday will do him good. There are no hills or anything so having sore muscles from that short distance is almost scary to me but most people here do not even walk so the bike exercise is better than nothing, if he uses it.

In school today Khun had to give away some presents and of course also receive some as well. Yesterday he bought presents at Tesco and spent several hours making the packages. I think each gift had a number and they then picked a number and got the gift with the number they picked. Yesterday he told me it was called buddy brother. I have never heard about it before. Anyway Khun got home with almost the same teddy bear he gave away.

Slow Days

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Tuesday, December 28, 2010

This week has been very slow and we have not done anything other than the usual daily routines.

When Khun got home from school he was tired from riding the bike the 1.5 km, guess having a bike was no longer fun. Damn lazy people it is not dangerous to let the body work a tiny little bit. He then came up with the idea of using the bike every other day to let the body rest.

Yesterday one of the neighbor buffalos had set himself free and did not want to be caught. The sun had already gone down so it was very dark and we first did not have a clue about what all the people were doing in the forest with motorbikes and flashlights. We were going to Tesco when we first saw them and when we got back after an hour or so they were still there and then we asked what they were doing. Another hour went by and it was time for us to take a walk with Nala and the buffalo still refused to go back home and fled when they tried to catch him. Some precautions are needed as well that huge animal could really do harm if he wanted.

I totally understand that he did not want to be caught. They spend most time of their lives attached to a tree with rope and they have no chance of running or anything else but standing under that tree starring.

In the late evening Nui and I went down to the beach, just sat talking for a while under the star filled sky.
