Comapny During The Weekend

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Friday, November 5, 2010

Yesterday I sad I had the feeling that we would get a glimpse of the sun and I was right. We had sun a few minutes in the early morning but that was about it. Nui rushed away to do some laundry but at the time she got there the sun had already disappeared. It is very hard to get the laundry dry in this weather.

In the afternoon Jessica called and asked us to go pick her and her boyfriend up at the ferry. It was raining again and I went out to the car with Nala and Nui but when I tried to start the car it was as it has been a few times. The fan are starting but the start engine is completely dead. Last time this happened I put in highest gear an just pushed the car a meter and then it was all working again. The problem now was that it was parked on wet and muddy grass and I first needed to back the car out. That was a mission that was not possible since I got no grip at all and the grass is slightly sloping. In front of the car there is a tree so this was is also impossible. I had to call Jessica and say that they need to get a ride by themselves.

When they got here we sat talking until midnight and tomorrow we will take care of the car. I am kind of interested to know what the deal is with the car. We will probably wait until Monday to visit a mechanic.

Checking The Island

Water Reservoir

Yesterday we had a quiet normal day, it was raining on and off all day with very sudden changes. The water level in Lamai was lower and it was not any problem getting around. After midnight however the electricity suddenly went out and it had not come back in the morning. We did not do what to do and after e had done nothing for a long while we went out. It was not raining at all so we decided to go visit the little dog I saved before.

On our way we saw a 7-11 store that had got smashed by a falling tree and the store had taken a pretty bad hit. The big sign that runs along the store had fallen down and blocked the entrance and I guess the inside was pretty messed up too. We went on to check the water reservoir which in the summer was almost all dried out and a week ago it was half filled. Today the water level was in line with the road. In other words it was more than full. The land area around had also turned into a lake and the trees on the side of the reservoir was sticking up in the water.

At Dog Rescue they first had a little problem to locate the little fellow I wanted to check up on and at one point they said he had died. After a while I found him in a small cage and the first thing we noticed was that he was very hot so he got a medicine injection to lower the high fever. When I called before they told me he was all fine, that was not really the case. His left front paw was paralyzed and if it did not get better they might have to amputate this leg completely to make him as movable as possible. I thought it must be possible to do a stiff leg operation for that joint but the vet said it was not possible. I have to check on that. If lucky the nerves will start to function. Nui felt that we need to take care of him and so do I but we already have a small centre at home but I am kind of sure that we will have him here soon. I wish there were more people helping out on all living creatures in need of help. Another small Pit bull puppy in the same area had got boiled water thrown on him in Chaweng and the wound from that looked really nasty but he was happy and played around with a friend anyway. The sad thing is that puppies cannot be released so if there are not any friendly person visiting who say they want them they get a life in the centre. So anyone who want to adopt a dog even to another country are more then welcome to do s with the help from the staff.

I have a small feeling we might get a glimpse of sun tomorrow, I do not now why but I hope I am right about that. I am so happy we have a house on the place we have, i do not want to think about having a water filled house.

What A Rainy Weather

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Tuesday, November 2, 2010

Yesterday we had a real windy day and the sea was very wild. We went to fix our TV in the early afternoon and it had been raining most of the day. Nala got to come along which made her more than happy. The TV was fixed in a matter of minutes and just when the guy was about to plug in the cable to see that it worked the store went out of power. We waited for a while and talked to the people in the small repair shop but after half an hour or so we decided to go back home. We plugged in the Tv and all the colors were as they should be, finally.

On the news we saw that we were expected to get heavy rain during the night and they were damn right about that. The rain was coming down as never before and it was still raining when we woke up in the morning. Soon after we also went out of electricity and the rain came down really hard. I went to the gym because I could not work or do anything anyway. After a nice workout session I got back home, ate some food and rested while figuring out what to do. We felt that we might buy some extra food since people were calling to check on us from Bangkok after seeing the news. They also said that it would not stop soon. At Tesco the store was filled with people and some things as egg was already finished. People were really stocking. On our way to the store cars was turning around because the water level was more than half a meter on the road but we managed get through but the car was not very happy being half drowned.

In the evening it got pitch black and we noticed that we were our of batteries and candles and had to take a second drive to the store. This time, only a few hours later, the water had almost disappeared totally from the area which was submerged before but at the main road the water level were the same as before. An hour after we got home the second time the electricity suddenly came back and also the telephone reception which were cut during the afternoon. Right now the rain started to fall again, really hard, it stopped for a few hours before, I hope the ferry will start to go soon so that we get the supply needed to the island.
