Burning Beach Walk

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Thursday, September 2, 2010

Yesterday after the gym I took a walk on the beach with Jens. When we had just arrived to the beach I remembered that I forgot to take sun lotion, not that good. After one hours walk and some minutes of swimming I went home and I could feel that the strong sun had done too much on my shoulders. When I got home I saw that they were pretty red but luckily not that super strong red, only red. I think the walk last week gave me some protecting color.

On wednesday when I was working by the computer in the late morning the electric was cut off, again. I thought it would last the whole day and started to figure out what I could spent the day with, but after only an hour or so the power was turned back on again so I was lucky. Before I wrote a lot about the bad internet that was a complete mess, it is still under control with only a few daily interruptions a few minutes now and then.

The days here are finally getting more quiet again with the dogs accepting each other more then before. The big new dog that came to the area not long ago was curious enough to come all the way up to us on a late walk the other day. Black was grunting a little big bit I had control enough to have all three dogs close by each other even if there was clear tension between Black and this new guy. Nala who has been acting strange the last week are getting better and better. I think she was a little ill and also got ace in her legs after I was trying to run and pay with her a little extra a few weeks ago. Back in Sweden she had problems with stiff legs every winter and sometimes after very long walks but she never had it from just a little running.

Today it has been very hot or at least sweaty. I think it was one of the sweatiest days ever, really. Even if I think it was the regular 34 degrees. In the late afternoon we got some really heavy rainfall. Nui got home soaked and at one part on the road back home the water was reaching about 3 dm from the road and Nui said that the engine was almost completely under water and she was scared that it might stop. She was lucky and made it. The rain stopped after less than half an hour and now the starts are filling up the sky.

Flat-out For Pizza

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Monday, August 30, 2010

It has not happened much this weekend. It has been quite nice as usual. Khun has been with friends playing in the beach mostly all days long so I have not seen him much during the sunny hours. Yesterday in the early afternoon Nui and I went down to the beach for a walk. We walked to the western part of the beach where the beach at many places are narrow and almost divided into small beaches before it gets wide again. I think this part is the nicest section. The water was almost as a mirror and the wind was completely absent. The sun was not that super strong because there were some clouds in between which was perfect.

I went down and took a short swim and then we just sat down talking for a while before we walked back again. At these moments it really feels privileged to live here. That is a feeling I would like to be able to pick up at moments when I get reminded of things I have had to sacrifice to be here.

Black has got his mouth shut up a few times by a bigger dog that Black use to bark at for way too long times. This bigger dog does not care about him much, he walks around or taking a nap outside the house where this female dog lives but sometimes when he literally is standing and barking right into his ears he jumps on Black and who then screams as a little piglet. The second the big dog lets go of him he continue to bark and gets jumped again, and again, and again. Since this other dog is a very good one who does not do more than he needs to they do not harm each other and since they are not outside my house I just cannot be running around everywhere so I let them be even if Blacks barking sometimes can get on my nerves.

On TV the last few days we have seen reports of huge floods around Asia, including parts of Thailand. The water level in parts of Thailand has been up to 1.5 meters and huge areas of rice fields and other crops are being damaged. It has been the worst floods in over 20 years and the last year has been very devastating with either to much water or no water at all. Half a year ago cattle and crops were dying in the same areas because of the extreme dry weather.
