Blue Sky And A Beach Walk

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Friday, August 27, 2010

After the Friday workout I went to the beach for a long walk. The sun was really burning today so I made sure to use sun lotion to protect my relatively white skin. I really do not care if I am tanned or not, the urge of a nice tan disappeared a long time ago and I rather not get burned. We walked for about an hour and ended the walk with a bath before I then hurried on to buy ice for Nui. The guys at the ice factory thought it was strange that I showed up wet. They see me almost everyday but this were the first time I had been to the beach before picking up the ice.

In the afternoon I went to Chaweng to buy some things for Nui so that we do not need to go on her day off. In Chaweng there were big dark clouds in the north and some extremely fine rain was falling. It did not look brighter when I left Chaweng but back in Lamai the sun was shining as usual. The weather can really be local sometimes. It is not rare that it is raining on the beach while we have sun at home and that is only a few kilometers between.

The last few days the weather has been super nice with clear blue sky all day long, and very hot. That is good because now there are a lot less mosquitos and also less animals trying to escape the rain. After the very long time without rain we had the little raining a few weeks ago made a lot of animals show up on the streets outside our house. Most of them were dead but not all of them. Some times I saw a quite large numbers of scorpions on the road during my walks however I have not seen any snakes in a long time. Even if these black scorpions are not deadly to most people I do not want to step on one of let the dogs get stung. On the road where we usually walk it gets very dark on some parts after sunset so it is very hard to see any creature crawling on the road at these part.

Another Non-Electric Day

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Thursday, August 26, 2010

I woke up today and felt that it was very hot. The fan had stopped and would not start again. Great, another day without electric. The morning went by slower than ever and I sat outside reading a little bit in a science magazine just to do something. The sky was completely clue and it was very hot. I am so happy that we have water even when the power is out, I remember how hard it was the few times without electric in the old house, could not take a shower, flush the toilet or anything. Anyway this is a small help when sitting here having much to do and it is either the electric or the internet that is not working properly. Our neighbors are running a small resort a few kilometers away and they really have a tough time with the costumers when the electric is out as often as it has been during these constructions.

I went for a walk with Nala who did not want to walk that far in the heat but rather sleep on the somewhat cold kitchen floor. Black has been more than crazy the last days it is that time of the year for the females. The most sad moment today for Black was to see a neighbor dog being attached to the female while he was sleeping. He woke up and ran out to bite the dog who was right outside our house but I stopped him. The female started to run and the poor dog was being dragged behind and could nog get free. That really was true comedy seeing this. But it is amazing to see that all the neighbors put up with the constant barking and growling from the dogs that gathers to get a chance to mate.

At about 15 o'clock the electric came back and I put on the computer but after only 30 minutes the internet went out so I decided to do the same and went down to the beach for a while. First I went to Nui to get a tasty refreshing drink and then took a quick look at the beach before I went back home. Luckily the internet was back again and I could get some things done.

Tonight we will see the other movie we rented, or at least I planned. Nui said it was old and she had seen it at least five times on TV so I am not really sure.

He Found The Feature

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Today I started the morning with a great session in the gym together with Jens. I finally feel that I have the strength to really push myself as usual without getting completely tired. The rest of the day was mostly spent by the computer.

After I picked up Khun at school as usual he wanted me to download a music video and put in his phone. A few days ago Khun when we did this the video was playing but it was no sound. I then told him to read in the manual and see what kind of video files it supports but yet he has not done that. I reminded him that he first had to check in the manual and so he did. For a long time he has been talking about that his friend has the exact same phone and that he can change track and pictures by moving the phone, but with Khuns phone nothing happens while doing the same thing. I have been sure this friend has a model that looks the same but really is not identical. When he had been sitting outside looking in the manual for a while he came in to me with a big smile and showed me that he had found the feature that makes the phone switch tracks and pictures when moving it with a snappy move. It was a feature that had to be activated before it worked. I think it was very strange that the package does not brag about this feature, this is exactly the kind of thing that kids really like and on the package it say nothing about this, strange.

When Nui had come home Khun and I went to rent a movie, tomorrow he has a day off so I thought we could to that. However the first movie did not really catch me, it was way to silly as many of the movies can be. Hopefully the other movie we rented is better, that we will know tomorrow.

Today we have had good weather most of the day but after sunset a short shower came down just before Nui had reached home.

Flat-out For Pizza

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Monday, August 23, 2010

This Saturday we went out to get a pizza in the late evening. It had been raining a little bit this evening and so we had to wait. We headed out and had only been driving a few hundred meters when I felt that the air was leaving the rear tire. We stopped and we then walked to the closes service place which luckily was open. The guy started to take the inner tube away but stopped halfway and I saw that he was preparing to fix the tube and not replace it. I asked if he did not have any new ones and he said that he did not. Well, this was better than nothing we thought and waited for him to get it done. He then filled up the tire and backed up the bike on to the street and we paid 30 for the job and jumped on the bike again. Before we even had started the engine we heard a strange sound from the rear end, it was air leaking out rapidly. The complete tire had been cut open but obviously the guy in the service store had not done his job, not even checking the complete inner tube.

We did not care about him, we did not want him to try anything more but I left on the bike alone while Nui and Khun walked to make the bike less heavy. All other stores seemed to be closed so I stopped at one and then phoned their number that they had on a sign and spoke to a guy. Only seconds later he popped out his head through the plastic they had as a door. This guy was willing to do this the right way and replaced the inner tube as well as the tire which was almost brand new. Not really what we had expected when we left home. When we were done the clock was about 22 already and we headed down to order the pizza.

Yesterday we went to the market and then sat down on the beach to just relax. Not far away a bar was playing old music and we sat there looking at the sea until it was completely dark except for the moonlight that actually was kind of bright. Luckily this evening it did not rain. Last Sunday it came a shower during the evening and it really ruin a lot for the people at the market.

The overall weekend has been very good and even though the weather has been somewhat cloudy it has been alot of sun and I even got a little sunburn when I went to pick up some things today, and that was only from a 20 minute drive and it has been good enought to make Khun and his friends wanting to play in the water all day long yesterday.
