Another Nice Weekend

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Monday, August 02, 2010

This weekend we have had a lot of time together even if we have been working. On Saturday Khun had to go to school for a few hours, they were about to participate in the protests of making of an oil rig close to Koh Samui that we really hope will not become reality. After they were done he went to play in the ocean with some friends. In the evening we went to eat hamburger and nuggets in a restaurant named Mamas burger here in Lamai that serves really great fast food but we almost never eat any food like that.

At Sunday we had to do some weekly shopping and in the afternoon we went to the brand new Sunday market on the beach road. This was the first time for this event that will now be a weekly happening. We have long been wondering why they do not have any market here, but now there is and we hope it will be something that draws people every week. As always when there are events in Lamai the majority of the people are local Thais and we met many fiends there as well.

Today Jessica arrived here again. Nui and I will go one damn last time to the immigration in Bangkok and pick up my visa. I went to the airport in the evening with Khun and while we sat there waiting it started to rain. It only kept raining for a few minutes so we never had to drive in the rain. When we had been sitting at the airport for a while Jessica called and said she was waiting by the road and wondered where we were. In some strange way we had missed each other. We threw up the bags on the bike and drove back home. We still have not decide which day we will go to Bangkok, I guess we choose a day when the weather is bad.

One very sad thing that happened was that we met our neighbor who said that two of hour friends that we have not seen for two days had been in a car accident. They had survived but was in hospital while another friend had died. One of them will have to stay in the hospital for another two months with skull fractures and other injuries while her boyfriend got away with a broken arm and some more minor injuries. After I had seen the pictures of the car I am amazed that anyone survived. The car was totally smashed and had been demolished to the same height as the hood.
