No Internet Again

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Thursday, July 22, 2010

I woke up to a kind of dark morning, at least the sky was not blue. The morning walk war very nice, it felt far from cold but not as hot as it normally does. We soon decided to do some shopping in Chaweng today so that we did not have to do that on Sunday when we usually do this.

In the afternoon a friend to Nui came over for a while and soon after I had pick up Khun at school one of his friends came over as well. Nui's friend had been fired from a restaurant the same day. She know they had very little costumers but the owner came with her salary and just said that she did not have to come any more. He had done the same to other people before without any notice which is very bad and even illegal but since they had no written papers she do not have any rights. This is the way it is in many cases. According to the girl he had fired all the people who was not from Isaan, where the owner himself is from and she also said that one reason probably is that it is easier to find people from that part who never dare to complain even if they have to work way too many hours. I have no personal insight of that myself. Anyway she had found new job the very same day in another restaurant and the salary was better and she also got a 2 hour break every day, so she was happy about that.

The internet has been down all day so I have not been able to do much. The way I use the computer today compared for, well it is many years now, is so different. Without internet the computer is close to worthless. Almost everything I do requires internet, except the music.

In the evening I prepared some salmon that we bought earlier in the day together with potato cloves. Salmon is probably one of the best fishes if not the one. If it is prepared so it is juicy but not raw it just melt in the mouth. Khun did not like it, he is very picky with things sometimes and when it comes to fish he is extreme. Squid on the other hand and other seafood is his favorites.

In the evening the internet company finally answered the phone, they had been having trouble in all Surat Thani but for me it was just another day since the new company never gets it right. I had a few long conversations with them on the phone but it do not help, they just said the same thing over and over like a robot. Anyway it is now working and maybe they will get it right some time, the last year was perfect but that was before this new company stepped in.

Blue Sky

A Blue Sky

This morning we woke up to a perfectly blue sky and it was almost no wind what so ever. The temperature at 35 degrees was really feeing hot. In the morning I went to the gym with Jens again and stayed about an hour. We did some leg exercises which was the first time for me in more than one and a half year so I was being very gentle and used very light weights.

Before Nui went away I had to go pick up the ice as usual and I went away. While approached a very narrow part of the road I met a car that had a very strange sound. While the car was passing by I saw that the sound was coming from a bunch of pigs who was packed next to each other in steal cages just big enough to fit one pig laying down. The pigs were screaming and it just looks so cruel transporting them like that. I have seen this many times and most often they also stack them on top of each other so they have to pee and even take a shit on each other. I am happy that I am not contributing to it since I never eat pork, at least that is something but unfortunately most people do not care.

In the evening we went to Tesco. On the way back home we stopped at a 7-11 store to buy a telephone card and one of Khun's classmates was just about to take off from the store on a motorbike. Khun is very small but this guy was way smaller. I would have guessed that he was only about 8 or 9 years old. He was far from reaching down to the ground when sitting on the bike and he had to jump on the bike with speed to not fall down. Yikes, how can they let him drive.

The last few days we have had some late afternoon showers but today the sky looks clear even long after the sun went down. It sure are variations in the weather now, but most days have had a lot of sun.

Early Morning

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Monday, July 19, 2010

Lady Nala Chillin

I woke up by my alarm at 6 in the morning today. It was time to drive Jessica to the bus. After more than a month here she was going back to Phuket for a while. When I got back home I drove Khun to school and when I got back home I went back to bed. I like early mornings in some ways, it makes the days longer and it is just a nice feeling about the early mornings but anyway i decided to get some more rest.

At noon I went to the gym where I met up with my friend Jens who usually work out in another gym. It was nice to get some company for a change and the workout got a slower tempo then usual which also was nice for a change.

In the afternoon I went to pick up Khun from school and we then went to Tesco to buy a new mobile phone. He has been saving fore a while and finally had the money to get the mobile he wanted. While we were standing there comparing two different models of iMobile, a brand I do not know much about, I saw a Samsung for a little bit less than the double price. It had touchscreen and seemed really good. I offered him to get that phone and that I would pay what was missing, I thought he would get really happy. Instead he said he liked the other one more. The iMobile seems to be a low price phone but with many features anyway I think the Samsung was way better and way cooler but he is the one who will use it and he really liked the phone he got.

By the counter the quiz show started as usual. As Khun said what phone he wanted I was standing just behind him while he got asked question after question about me, his mom and so on. After about ten questions he said that I understood what they said. I had just been standing there, I mean, if they treat me as a ghost then I can be the ghost, at least for a while. I looked and said, yes, I understand everything you said. Now the quiz was turned to me. Yaaawn.

I drove back home with a smiling kid and I guess he could not wait to get to school today. The phone he had before was a very good one, one of my old ones and probably the best I had with relatively good sound but the display had gone nuts and it was not possible to read messages and other things.
