We Got Some Rain

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Friday, July 16, 2010

Today we woke up to a sunny sky, I did my morning routines and Nui went to work in the early afternoon as usual. A few hours later the sun disappeared and then suddenly a tropical rain started to fall. Even if we really need the rainfall right now it sure is better if it comes in the night. At about 16 o'clock Nui got back home, soaking wet from the heavy rain. The rain stopped about an hour later. After another hour Khun came back from school, they have had sport activities the last few days and the mix of hot sun half days and heavy rain the other half had made him ill. He went into the bedroom and lied down and fell asleep after a while. I guess he just need some good rest.

I went to the gym and arrived just when the owner was about to leave, 45 minutes before closedown. They were not expecting anyone to arrive at this time after a heavy rain but now they had to stay. I will try to spend some more time in the gym and gain some more weight. I have not been very ambitious with the training because of the visa thing and that my family came to visit us. I completely trashed my chest for 45 minutes which felt good. I know it might sound strange to some people but for me hard exercise just feels good.

I hope we will have sun all day tomorrow for Nui's sake. The rain also makes it hard for Nala. The ants gets up to the surface and bites her like crazy, I just cannot understand how she gets bitten even on the street. So she just refuses to make the number 2 even when she really needs to and even whine because she wants to go outside. But as soon as she gets bitten its impossible, kind of understandable. By the way the number of ticks have been very low and even none many days the last weeks, I really hope this rainfall will not make them pop up as last time.

And We Are Back

Ferry View

This morning we got back again. The trip from Samui took a few hours longer than usual. In the middle of the night they started to change a wheel on the bus which took an hour and when we got back on the road the traffic stood completely still just a few minutes later due to a big truck that got into some sort of problem and the helping vehicle had to block the second line as well for a while. Well, in Bangkok we went home to Nui but since we arrived so late we did not sleep but just rested a big before heading to the immigration office. Here we got reminded of that my visa did have less than 15 days left and to get the visa I want I had to have a minimum of 15 days left so I extended if for a few thousand baths and I also had to go to get copies of the extension before I could proceed. Now came the next problem. Before we left we had gone to an office in Samui to get two documents that was needed which was very strange because I had a certificate that the Samui office gave me which is only possible if having these documents. We got copies of these two papers but the people working there found it very strange that I would need this due to the fact they had issued the certificate. What we had missed was a stamp in the back of these papers and even if they had the documents in two languages with stamps on the front they needed the backside stamps as well. I called Jessica and she went the 20 km to the office, made copies of the backsides and then faxed them to the office in Bangkok.

After this was done a few hours had passed by but finally we could get this done. I paid a few more thousand baths for the application and we were done. The only thing left now is to pick up the visa in Bangkok in about two weeks. Yes, I will need to go one more time. We tried to get this lady that we had been in contact with the last two times in the office to take my passport and then send it to me but that was not possible. She said it was a to big risk to send it with the post since it could get lost. And yes, I would never trust the Thailand post because all the small envelopes I got sent to me over the years never reached me, only the bigger ones have arrived. It has been so many really crazy and stupid things while arranging this that even while knowing before how far behind Thailand is in many ways they are so much more far behind then I had realized. Just the fact that we could not get right information from start is beyond understanding and to get anyone to explain the reason why, is impossible. This is what makes it hard for me to respect the way things are and the people behind. Nui who never before seen this side if her country but only seen the stupidity of private persons behavior has been chocked many times. She often say she has a very hard time to relate to people around her.

In a few weeks it will be a trip number four to Bangkok and I cannot with words say how tired I am of this story. This evening after a sunny day we got the longest rainfall we had in ages which was good since many people have not had any running water the last months.

Off We Go

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Now it is soon time to head to the main city, again. Today the money had arrived in the bank and we got a statement of the amount sent from the banks headquarter in Bangkok. Then we went to the other side of the island, to Nathon where you had to make a copy of a few papers that the Samui office have. These papers where needed to get a certificate from this office but even with this nice certificate the immigration in Bangkok needed those few other papers. Very strange since I had the certificate witch you cannot get without those papers. No need to try to figure out any reasons to things, just get what they want, right. When we were about to leave Nathon we saw a coffee car by the road. Nui got curious about their coffee and tea so we bought one ice tea and one kickoff. The couple were working from the back of the pickup under the very low roof. Nui checked how much they used of different things and said it was about the same as she did but they had different tea and coffee and it was not at all as tasty as the ones Nui found are the best ones. We then went to book bus tickets, we want to leave as soon as possible so that we do not have to waste more days then needed.

Yesterday when we called the bank our contact had her day off that's why we did not leave then but it does not matter, as long as it gets done this week I am happy. I just hope we do not get any further surprises but when we return this long stupid story has got an end.

I also had the time to visit the gym which was nice since the times I been there the last few months is extremely few. On the way back I almost ran into the baby buffalos mother. She was on the loose and came running from the bushes on to the street just a few meters ahead of me. She had the rope attached to her nose but in the other end there were only a few straws of grass and a stick. She seemed happy about this and ran around in the palm tree forest next to our house. I guess someone was looking for her later in the evening.

For those of you who are interested in the weather I can tell you that it has been great lately. Some clouds but mainly sunny and very hot. Today we have 34 degrees. I hope I will be back smiling on Thursday morning. Now it is time to fix a few things before we have to leave.
