A Day in The Pool

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Friday, June 25, 2010

Today the weather was very good and Nui went away with her coffee sidecar at lunch time. We have had so much going on lately and there had been many days since she worked so finally the coffee and tea lovers in Lamai could have their treat again. One lady said she had gone to restaurant in Tesco to get tasty coffee but the price was almost three times more and while going out for dinner many of her costumers asked when she would be back.

I spent the morning doing some work and then I spent time in the pool with my brothers. Khun went on a camp early in the morning and would not be home until Sunday. They will spend the time camping by an old temple a few minutes from here where they also have a graveyard. There they will learn from the monks and also conquer their fear of ghost by sleeping close to the graves. I said that I might come visit in the night, a joke I regret a little when I saw his unsure smile. I guess most of the kids will not be that brave the next nights.

When Nui got back home in the evening we went to eat dinner in a restaurant where we use to speak to the Thai owner, a very polite young man and his family. We ate and looked at football, then we went back home and played some games and just spent time together until late night. This weekend we will take a trip around the island and show my family all the nice places there are to see here.

Information Trip

Samui

Back on Samui again after the second visit to the big city in just over one week. I was not very positive when we left due to the different things we had been told over the phone and unfortunately my feeling was right. What the office said in the phone did not match the reality and we spent time in two different offices to sort this out, the last one was the countries main immigration office. Even in this office we got different things told when asking the exact same question, guess how frustrating this is. For example everyone in the information centre said that economic funds must have been in Thailand for two months but regarding the paper the immigration officer 20 meters away gave us it was three months. While talking to the immigration officer he suddenly said that if the funds was not in the bank yet they at least could change my visa and she brought us to another officer who after 2 minutes said that without the funds ready the visa could not be changed. Why the heck did the first one brought me here then, I just wanted to explode in their faces but what good would I gain from that. I just explained how different everyone said but never got an answer why her colleague brought us to her. I them almost interrogated her using all the false info I heard on the way to hear this persons answers. Think if we just could have got the correct information on the phone. We would have saved time, money and a lot of energy. This trip ended up being just an information trip and we will have to go back again but now I will stay here until my family are leaving.

We did not sleep much during the two days and when we got home early in the morning I did not want to sleep since I hate to sleep during the day. I spent most of the day on the beach and even if not longing for laying in the sun but stayed in the shadow I got a little tourist sunburn going on. Tomorrow we will have a day by the pool for a change.

Bangkok again...

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Monday, June 21, 2010

The nice weekend is over and a new week is here. The weather has been very cloudy this weekend but no rain so in the end it has been okay. We have been to our favorite nearby beach, Silver beach, one day. As always it was beautiful and in the afternoon we even got some sunshine while there as well.

Today Nui and I went to immigration to make the last step in the plan but here it was stop. According to the rude lady I had to change my visa on an embassy outside the country while I read and heard that I should be possible to just extend my visa in any immigration office. Here it did not help at all that I could speak Thai and afterward I heard that it is harder to do these things on tourist places and that different offices can apply different rules. As always it is just a big mess. We went back home and spoke to 8 different immigration offices in different parts of Thailand and guess what, we got plenty of different answers to the same questions. We found one office in Bangkok where they said that we were able to make the residence permit extended which means that tomorrow we are going back to Bangkok. We are both so fed up on this system that I start to regret I this time wanted to do it the right way. The cost and time spent is horrible. Since this will only be done once there is no need to change the plan now when so much have been spent but I think the way I have done this before is by far superior even if that is not the right way. Sad but true.

We have spent the last months in some strange slow motion world which has sucked so much energy out of us. I just hope we soon can focus on the life here and not on paperwork that no one can confirm how it should be done. Now my family will have to spend a few days on their own and hopefully we are back soon.
