No Cable

Nala with Family

Yesterday I was just about to eat breakfast when two guys from Samui Cable came by. They wanted to collect money which is not strange. They usually do this every month or on what ever basis you want to pay. We had noticed a one year bill earlier but neglected that one since we do not want to pay for one year. Any way they wanted to have money for the last month but also two month before that. During this tim ewe were not in this house and the people who lived here before had paid for one year but when that expired the cable guys never came to collect any money and I guess the people did not care.

The guys now wanted us to pay for the other people and I heard from the porch that Nui said that we already paid for the old house and the new house this month and do not want to pay even more since it was not our bill. I stepped down because I could not believe what I heard and I asked what the problem was and he said it again, that we had to pay for the other people who had not paid. I could not help laughing and I really did not care. Saying this I just think was too stupid and I said that we do not have anything more to do with this than any other neighbor and in the next second the land owner came by. He thought we better buy a satellite disk from a company and you do not have to pay any more. Samui cable is extremely bad and also very expensive compared to other local cables. It al ended with them taking down their equipment and leaving without even getting paid for the month we lived here, which was not my intention. We still have not decided what company we will stick with and for my sake it does not matter that much because I do not look much on TV. Nala does not care either as long as she can get herself a belly rub once in a while

So now we have some days without TV. Khun tried to see a movie with Thai subtitles but this one was to fast. The people making the subs like to make them disappear in the same millisecond as the person stop speaking even if they could let it stay one or two extra seconds so you have to be an extremely fast reader to keep up with it. Today the school was closed and we went to rent a few cartoons instead. The weather today was somewhat cloudy for a change but it is still very hot.

First Day In School

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Yesterday when we were right about to go to sleep the electric went out and less than one minute later Khun woke up. He is by far the most heat sensitive person I have ever met. Even when only about 30 degrees he prefer having a wet towel and a fan on highest speed close by. He shouted and wondered why we turned of the new fan we bought the same evening.

Since the weather is extremely hot not it was really impossible to sleep and we opened up the windows and doors to try to get some air inside but there were no wind what so ever and we all went outside and placed a candle on the table. While we sat there we laughed because we heard things falling down on the floor in houses near by and we guess people tried to find candles or just move around the pitch black houses.

The sky flashed like crazy but the thunder was almost impossible to hear because it was far away and we had lots of stars on the sky. Since the weather was where we live it was probably a big problem some where else far away. After about one hour it started to rain very gentle but still no wind. Instead we got plenty of mosquito bites and decided to go back inside again. The clock was more than 2 in the night and today it was the first day in school and Khun needed to wake up at 6 in the morning. He was a little nervous about starting in a new school but fell asleep a while after even though very hot. Nui was the one who were most tired this morning and she slept one hour before she went to work. Khun had had a great time in school and will have no problem at all to get a lot of new friends.

More Bad Luck

Trailer Que

It is almost like I do not want to write this post because the weekend was not very great for me. I went away on my trip on Friday. Earlier during the week I had talked to a friend and got the good news that the trip I was planning was available everyday, even during weekends. After a long drive I was in Had Yai and had a few hours until the next bus would take me to Malaysia. I was talking to some friends on the phone when one of them suddenly remembered that the consulate is closed during weekends which meant I would have to stay several nights just waiting for them to open. Since Nui cannot work when I am away I bought a ticket back to Samui and then only went the one hour drive to the border and collected another two weeks. One of the lanes close to to the border was packed with trailer trucks, I do not know how many but the queue was reaching far back and I was happy that the lane for regular cars were all empty. When we got back to the bus station I had more than six hours to kill and I went strolling on a market and did everything I could to get the time going.

I would lie if I said I did not care. When I got back home I had spent close to 30 hours to get two more weeks here and the only positive thing about this is that I now appreciate the fact that I have been getting such an easy way into Thailand the previous years even more than before. So I will most certainly have to go on one more trip before I have everything set again.

I was happy that Nui had had no problems with Nala but she had been just great and they even went for a longer walk which Nui never thought she would dare to.

Yesterday we went for a swim and I believe it was the warmest swim I have ever taken in my entire life. The water was hot in the shallow bay and the ocean was completely still. Not much of cooling effect at all but still very nice.
