Low water

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Friday, April 23, 2010

Low Water

This whole week has been very hot with over 35 degrees most days. Today Khun and I went on a trip just to get out of the house for a while. We went to some of the places where Nui and I use to go. At the beach on our favorite spot the water was extremely low and we walked many hundred meters right out where the water usually is. It is a shallow beach which explains the dramatic changes and at some places you could walk 800 meters and still have water below your knees. It was good to see the ocean floor like this because now we know where the rocky places are if we want to play around in the water some time and I got surprised that so much of the bottom was covered with sand without any rocks because the rocky parts are usually what is seen above surface.

I still feel that I need to drink water and I wonder how much I have been sweating today. In the late morning I went to the gym and it is a few degrees to hot to work our right now I think since it is an open gym there is no air condition. I thought I was about to faint when I was driving back home which felt kind of scary and it felt like that for quite a while after I got home as well. I took a shower to cool down but the water does not get very cold.

Tomorrow it is time for me to go to Malaysia again. The three month between the trips really flies by fast. So tomorrow before 5 in the morning I get picked up. It always feels so stupid having to do these trips and I also feels very nice when getting back again. This weekend Nui will be home, tomorrow she must take care of our dog Nala and on Sunday she usually never works and I do not think she plan on working this Sunday either.

Have a nice weekend, I hope I will have a wonderful Sunday.

Missing Bag

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Wednesday, April 21, 2010

This morning I was walking the dogs with Nui when I saw a lady walking her dog as well but she was acting very weird. I have talked to this european lady many times before and I could tell something was wrong from far away. I asked if her other dog had run off but she said she lost her bag and was literally running around in area and it was kind of hard to get contact with her. I managed to understand she had only put her bag down for a few seconds while she was getting her other dog who ran off. When she then came back seconds later the bag was gone.

She told me she had her credit card, keys, wallet and everything in the bag all while she was still running around looking just as if she only dropped her keys on the ground. She hurried off to our neighbor hood and we were walking 50 meters behind. When we got to our house there were people on the street that did not understand what this was all about while the men around where we live went away in their bikes.

When I some minutes later headed off to the gym I saw the lady and my neighbors standing along the street with the police and I stopped. They had found the bag and the guy who had it was also there, how they found it I still don't know because it was kind of dramatic when I arrived. One of my neighbors hit the guy over the throat and the guy had claimed he did not take it but he got it from a friend.

In Thailand the punishment for stealing is extremely hard compared to what I am used to and I think it might be too hard since I also think that this might be the case why people also can be ready to kill to not leave any witness. However assaulting people is not a serious crime at least as long as there are no weapons involved. I personally think most people would prefer having their bag stolen rather than get beaten up seriously but this is only my guess.

The rest of he day has been good, I have been working and sweating since the weather is very hot.

Mixed Weather

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Today we have had a very varied weather even with some drops of rain in the morning. Then the sun came through and in one direction the sky was almost completely blue while in the mountains there were lots of clouds. Nui thought she would be able to work and started to prepare for the day when the clouds from the mountains were getting closer and minutes later some more rain came down, but it only lasted for a few tiny minutes. I wish we had a really rainy day or night because it has been so long it would actually be a little cozy staying inside watching and listening to heavy rain. Sometimes I think it is very nice sleeping to the sound of rain and it also makes the weather refreshing afterward.

I have been playing some Playstation with Khun and mixed it up with some work in between as well. In the afternoon Nui and I played some badminton outside on the street in front of our house, it was really fun. This little road outside only leads to our house and one neighbor so it is free from traffic and even if the other road is very close by it is very nice to have this little area outside. After a while the ball ended up in a nearby tree and we ended our workout session.

In late afternoon we got a visit from three guys from a cable company who were about to fix our internet cable. I have been using the wifi from my router in the house we lived in before and they only needed to extend the cable from that house to the new one. I went into our bedroom before they arrived here because very often the case is that you will have to pay more if they see any white people around and Nui doesn't want to pay more only because I happen to be a European. Nui had already in the telephone said that they could come in a few weeks but they insisted on coming this afternoon cause they had time and they said they could do it for a better price as well. We only had to pay one third of the price they first told Nui and I felt a little sad for one of the guys because he also got stung multiple times by bees in a tree nearby the cable pole. They had it all fixed in just a few minutes because we already had a telephone line to the house which they connected the new cable to and then it was working just perfect.

Back to Normal

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Monday, April 19, 2010

The weekend has been very good. We have been driving around checking out the northern side of the island which we does not visit that often anymore and we have also been eating good food and had time to relax and just sitting around talking with each other.

Today Jessica was about to head back to Phuket. The weather was very hot and after midday I drove her to the airport and then headed back home. I think this was one of the hottest days we have had and the winds while driving were literally burning hot at times.

When I got back we went to look at bikes and why not start at Tesco we thought. We looked around by ourselves and did not see anyone working in this area so after a while we went to the information desk where they called for someone to help us. After we had played around with some balls and other toys for quite a while a girl came and she told us they had no one for this section of the store. The bike we had been looking at was missing a bolt which made the front wheel half loose and when looking more carefully we found that most of the bikes were in deep need of further assembling before ready to roll. After a while Khun said that it might be better to look in another store and I could not agree more.

In the evening we ate a great tasting Sushi meal and then we went strolling around by the beach before we went home and ended the evening with a movie.
