Visiting the Beach

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Friday, April 16, 2010

Today I woke up 9 am as usual. It is like I have a clock in me which wake me up the same time and lately it has been 9. I ate my breakfast and then took the dog for a walk, cut my hair and shaved and went a couple of times to get water. Then suddenly it was 12 o'clock.

When Jessica arrived we went to the northern side of the island to meet a Thai family we have not seen for a while and their daughter who goes to a Bangkok school we have not seen for years. Unfortunately they were not at home so I guess we will all go tomorrow when Nui and Khun are back. They will probably arrive with the yearly morning ferry.

Since they were not at home we went back to Lamai and went to the beach where we laid down for a while sipping on the most watery ice coffee I ever tasted. The first two glasses we got contained some extra protein in the form of small ants. We got new ones without the extra ants and enjoyed some afternoon sun. Only an hour before it was raining a very fine kind of rain for a few seconds while we were driving but we did not even get wet from it and now the sun was shining and if was very relaxing laying there in the afternoon sun.

I also finally went to the gym where I have not been for a while, it felt good but I had been eating very little during the day which made me lose energy a lot faster. Now it is time for us to head out to eat again, my stomach is shouting for food even if I ate only one hour ago. I will also try to go to sleep in good time since I will have to wake up early tomorrow when Nui and Khun comes back.

Water and More Water

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Waterfun

Yesterday it was Songkran. We trove around in Lamai to celebrate and it sure was a fun as usual. Along the main road and the beach road there were tons of people threw water and painted each other with baby powder. Some used powder with cooling effect which were not very pleasant to get in the mouth and eyes.

The fun thing about this event is that it brings out all the people and it becomes very clear how few the tourists really are compared to Thais even on the places where there are usually mostly tourists. After getting soaked with ice cold and also warm water we went for a swim. At the way back home we got targeted with more water and powder.

In the evening we went to eat dinner and the restaurant was crowded with only one chef so we had to wait quite a while to get our food but it did not matter. After the dinner we went back on the beach road to see if there were many people out there and we got very surprised since it was very quiet. Maybe most people already had gone to bed after a long day or they were on other places. We went to the beach where we drank a few cocktails in a place where our neighbor works. We choose to sit on the kind of place where you can also lay down very comfortable. At about one o'clock we had had enough end we went back home and one hour later we went to bed after a very nice day.

Today we did not do that much. Nui went to Bangkok to pick up her son and to meet her family only for a few days. I first planned on going too but then changed my mind since I will be going to Malaysia very soon and it will be too much sitting around in a bus and also too many days off from work.

Flawless weekend

New House

This weekend went by just flawless. At Friday I went to pick up Jessica at the airport and we ended the day with an easy Thai dinner from a small late night open restaurant. Saturday morning I got my sound system delivered just as promised and on Sunday we moved to a new house almost next door. We did not know what tim ewe would be able to move in and during the afternoon my friend Anders came by and we ate some food and chatted. Some hours later we got access to the house and we managed to move everything in just a few hours and we celebrated with some drinks and a nice dinner all together on the porch. It feels extremely nice to have a real house.

Today the Songkran started early with water being thrown all over the island. We went to Chaweng to see the view from the temple that is set on the northern side of Chaweng. We had only been driving down to the main road when the first water hit us and we were soaked. On the way over the hills I got dry from the wind and the hot sun only to be soaked multiple times again when entering the more lively areas.

The weather was very hot and we stayed by the small temple resting for a while before we headed back. On the way back we drove on the beach road where we got the taste of both hot and ice cold water. In Lamai we went on the beach road as well and it was just as lively and we got the taste of hot and cold water again.

In the evening we went to the beach where they had some activities. We got surprised that it was so little things going on since other times it has been absolutely filled with people and Songkran is the most important happening. Maybe tomorrow it will be more people since it is the main day.
