Sugar Shortage

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Wednesday, Mars 31, 2010

Spider

Yesterday was another cloudy day, but no rain. Nui stayed at home because it looked as if it might rain and rainy days do not give that much. The rain has made the ants pop up again and Nala gets bitten all the time and sometimes she does not want to go out. It might sound like a small problem but in the evenings there are ants everywhere and even at the road we saw like ant-highways on many places. In the grass at the sides there are even worse. Luckily, during the day there are not as many.

One of the happiest for the rain is the pink buffalo who plays around most of the days in the water whole he made himself during the rain a few days ago.

Today the sun has been shining almost all day but suddenly while I was working the thunder came rolling making the whole house shaking. I thought I better be safe than sorry and shut down the computer for a short while. Outside the shy was blue in one direction while it was very dark towards the mountain behind us. After only 10 minutes the thunder was gone and I could continue to work. I just got another music project so the day has been fun.

During our walks I have seen a big spider in a tree just by the road but every day I forget the camera but today I remembered. This kind of spider I have seen many times but they can become quite big.

The sugar on Koh Samui is nowhere to be found. Our Tesco store were the first one to run out of it and it has been empty in that section for about a week. We have found some in 7-11 stores and such small stores but we have to go further for each day. They claim the sugar delivery have not reached Samui for a while, I do not know why. We have seen brown sugar and also a more expensive brand but since Nui use it in the coffee those brands cannot be used since the coffee would have to be to expensive. Coffee without sugar is not coffee for most Thais where the sugar is probably close to 30% of the ingredients. So far we have not run out of it completely and probably the stores will be filled up soon again.

Movie Night

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Monday, Mars 29, 2010

Yesterday was movie night. We went to a movie store where a girl that we know works. We chose a movie and got one more movie free. When we after a while had found another DVD we went to pay. We chose two new movies which was not possible, the extra movie that was for free could not be a new one but had to be from another shelf and there were some movies you could have for a few days other ones for only one day and after a while I stopped listening and let Nui decide. They did not have that many movies to choose from if wanted a new one and I have seen way too many movies which becomes evident when trying to find anyone I have not yet seen. We ended up with Southern Tales, 21 and two Thai movies.

We started with Southern Tales but after about 50 minutes we gave that one up. It was one of the worst movies I ever seen. I do not know how to describe it but it was just a bunch of clips and whatever happened gave us no reaction.

The second movie was a Thai movie which started out really good. About a girl who got postcards from a guy that moved to northern Thailand who did not know the girl he knew had moved. This girl then decided to go to either the guy or to find the girl, that was not clear. With time more people came in to he story and more people and believe it or not, more people and they had nothing to do with each other, other than that they were heading to the same area. And after one and a half hour the movie ended leaving all the stories wide open. Sad that such a great start then got spoiled.

Now the clock was about 1 but what the heck, This life is freedom and we can sleep some extra hours if we want to so we saw the second Thai movie as well. This one was good from start all the way to the end. The name translated to english would be "Sneak away to meet Gallileo" but the english title was "Dear Galileo" when I checked it up at the internet. It is a story about two Thai girls who travel to Europe without knowing anything what is ahead of them. Not at all a heavy movie but I thought it was interesting to see everything from a Thai perspective and also I got to practice my Thai since both the Thai movies had no subtitles.

After a rainy weekend, which was more than needed the Monday was mixed with sun and clouds but of the thinner kinds. Since we slept a bit longer than usual this day passed by even faster than usual.

Tonight we will see the last movie and then sleep much earlier than yesterday.
