Accident and Hair Cut

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Monday, Mars 22, 2010

This weekend I planned on getting my hair trimmed down again, and grabbed my trimmer which already the third time or so had started to behave strange making banging sound when tilting in some directions. I had tried to adjust it but nothing helped. This time even a hard punch did not fix the problem and since the sound is loud enough to make you death it ended up in the trash. The next day we went to Chaweng and bought a new one from store that had many different brands. I planned on getting one with batteries but I did not dare to buy one of those here since they probably would be crap. I bought the most expensive cord trimmer and went back home and got my self a nice haircut. Sweet, this machine really was good, and I hope it will last longer than the last one did.

Today the weather has been very hot and I went on a walk after the sun just had gone down. On my way back a young guy came driving in high speed and before on of the road bumps he turned over on the wrong side of the road to "cheat" the bump. In this end you can drive on a few centimeters and get away from the bump. I hardly never do that because I think it is unnecessary, a little break and then you can go on. When this guy came driving, just as almost everyone does, I stopped because I was scared of getting hit by the bike, if he fell. And so he did, badly. The tire got outside the concrete road and then did not get back up making the bike fall to the ground along with the guy driving it. I was only a few meters away from where he landed and the bike went bouncing of the road which was lucky for me. The guy fell right on his back and bounced at the road and then tumbled around. He went up really quickly and started to look at his bike. He acted as if nothing had happened which you can do even when hurt, because in some kind of chock. I asked if he was ok but he did not say anything and when he turned to me I saw that his jaw was badly hurt. He probably did not understand that at this point. I guess he did the second bounce with face down and he must have been lucky not to hit his head, but that jaw was nasty. A gash of several centimeters and it was all wide open into the bone.

I flagged down a couple arriving on a bike and they brought the guy back home, he was only hundred meters from where he lives and then they took off to the hospital. I wonder if that jaw was broken or not. He lives just across the street from me so i guess I will get to know when he returns from hospital again.

I do not understand why the parents does not get angry when their kids are driving like crazy. Last weekend I saw an 11 year old driving his 8 year old brother on another part of the island when we were visiting a friend. He was about to fall several times in high speed. Most often nothing happen but when it does it can be less fun.
