Lamai Street Fight

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Friday, January 15, 2010

After having some problems falling asleep we both woke in early in the dawn unable to sleep. We did not know why but suddenly the clock was about 9:30 so I had anyway fallen a sleep a few more hours. The weather was not the best and the last days it has been on and off with rapid changes. I took off to check some hotels for my family who will visit us this summer and also for Jessica who we will pick up in Bangkok next friday. When I just arrived at a hotel the rain started to fall so I ended up chatting with one guy and one girl in the reception. The guy was originally from Udon Thani in the north east and the girl from Trang in the south. Even if just chatting for 10-15 minutes it is fun to hear what people have to say, not least when they come from parts I haven't been to.

Momen is getting better but she still sleeps a lot at times. I have been taking short walks and she tags along. After we had walked only about 100 meters or so from the house she saw a big dog in front of us. She stayed while I walked on. She then turned and started to walk back home so I called for her for a while and she decided to follow. I only wanted her to trust me and fallow past the dog which she did. She also knows that she has to stay if we leave with the bike and does not try to come along as the first time when she tried to climb the bike as well.

Today Nui got to see a chick fight. One girl working at a hotel came for work and another girl was waiting for her close by. She pulled her down in the hair while the other girl was still driving her bike and of course she fell to the ground with a loud bang. Then the girl who just pulled the hotel girl down to the ground started to beat her up while everyone else who came out to see what was going on was standing like frozen. The girl was beating the other girl while she was still on the ground and also delivered a bunch of hard knees. After a good beating the boyfriend stepped out of the hotel threatening to beat up the girl who was his old girlfriend angry because the guy had been cheating on her with this other girl who was working on the same hotel as the guy. Taking out the frustration and anger on the third part seem to be extremely usual while the partner often get away much easier. The guy made it clear with loud voice that he did not want to have anything to do with his old girl and that he told her this many times before. The girl said that she now got her fury out and it was all settled. The beaten girl will probably have a bruised and swollen head a few days.

Tomorrow it is time for a long awaited tennis again. I wish you all a nice pleasant weekend.

Dog Rescue Center

The morning started out with the weather being ok. By noon it got darker and Nui did not know if she should take off or not. Our new family member, who now got the name Momem which is something you can say to children being dirty, seemed even better this morning but I had already decided that I would go get medicine and that plan was not negotiable. Nui followed as well and we first went to take care of the electric bill that needed to be paid up in Nathon since we forgot to pay it at 7-eleven when I was not feeling ok last week.

When we took off Momem ran after and I accelerated to make her stop but even falling behind more than hundred meters she kept running so we turned back. I took her to the porch and told her to stay with clear body language. When I got back to the bike she was already on her way down from the stairs. I took her back again and laid her down on her favorite spot and told her to stay again. When we took off she sat up looking after us but she understood the message and stayed, surprisingly quick. The roads were wet from rain along the road towards Nathon but we were lucky, no rain during our trip. We then went to the Dog Rescue Center and talked to the veterinary who seem to remember me from when I lived here two years ago. We got 3 different medicines and a anti-worm pill.

On the way back home the rain started to fall. At first only a little bit but soon it was poring down in the way it only can in this tropic parts of the world. We stopped and took shelter under a tree until the worst part was over. When it is heavy rain like this and the winds are blowing you do not have to drive fast at all to make the drops hit the eyes making them feel like tiny rocks dipped in acid. After some minutes the rain started to pore down again but we kept going. When we got home our little buddy turned up at the house wagging her tail only seconds after we arrived. Now she got her medicines and will be in good condition soon. Then it is up to her to decide if she want to stay or not, I am quiet sure what the outcome will be since she seemed determined in a very strange way the first time she came to us.

Nuis Costumers in Lamai

Today the morning started out with a cloudy sky, we even got a short shower. By noon the sky was about equal blue and while and soon after it was almost all blue. Our new family member seemed to be much better than yesterday so I thought I might not have to give any medicine but in the afternoon she got very tired and I decided that I will get medicine tomorrow no matter how much energy she seem to have tomorrow morning.

Nui brought the camera with her today, she wanted me to see all her costumers, some which I have already met. She now has a maximum number of costumers which means that she sometimes does not have the time to even go one round on the beach road. That is of course extremely positive and could not be more happy for her, she really has done a great job.

In the afternoon I went to Chaweng to buy coffee and tea so that we did not have to do that in the morning. Tomorrow I will have to go to Nathon to pay our electric bill. When I was ill we forgot to pay it at 7-eleven and when the last date has passed it is no longer available to pay in any other place than at the electric company head office, damn. It is also time to get hold of a car for our Bangkok trip and these last few days will go by very fast. I hope the road trip will be more than ok, usually I enjoy spending time driving but I have never driven north of Surat Thani before and at least we will get to see something new. I was hoping to be able to cross the border to Malaysia as well on the way up, but the only border on the way are closed for other than Thais and Burmese people. This means that I will have to take one day more when we get back from Bangkok to go to Malaysia, that will be damn number 2 in this post.

Now it is time to relax with some television and chili flavored squid snacks. Some of those snacks are really tasty while others are not and the brands are many so one have to dig into a lot of non tasty snacks to find the good ones.

Corn and Coffe in Lamai

A few days ago a young female dog came wondering up on the driveway and stepped right in to the house and laid down in front of the refrigerator. Not that surprised about seeing another dog, but very surprised to see a dog like this. Just one other dog have come to us in a way as if he already knew us, but this was one step more. I took her out of the house and she had some discharge from her eyes and acted very slow. She stayed all day and just slept on the porch. Wen the sun set in and the mosquitoes came I let her stay inside and then I decided to give her a shower. I guess that was the first time and she did not like it, that was for sure but she had no choice and she did not protest that much.

Just before we were about to sleep she came in to the bedroom and said she had to pee so I opened the door and after 2 minutes she was back in side again. She woke me up a few times and at 5 o'clock in the morning she wondered off and when she did not come back for a few minutes a closed the door and went to bed. In the we found her sleeping on the porch. Sometimes she seems to be ok but then again she is very tired. I just hope she does not have distemper, a very bad decease, but I think it is only a normal flue. She has all the puppy teeth left so I estimate her to be only about 4 months old.

I thought her not to enter the house, and she sleeps outside which I think is the best. I do not want to take her in if she might have another home close by, but now after three days she stays here all the time and I guess it is a fact that we have a new family member. I have said that I will not have any more dogs but on the other hand I will not throw anyone out either. Tomorrow I probably will get her medicine if she is not better. Yesterday she ate a good meal but puked it all up, today I think she kept it all, she got dog food in a can since that has a strong smell and she did not want to eat any thing else.

That's about what this weekend has been about. In the afternoon today I went to the gym but only stayed for about 30 minutes. I felt that the body was not 100% ok yet and I did not want to push it to hard.
