It Is So Sad

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Friday, November 20, 2009

Billi

Most people love traveling to Thailand not least for the wonderful and friendly people. As everywhere in the world there are people with intentions less good. There is a Swedish guy who lives in another part of Thailand and he has a lot of animals such as monkeys, turtles, birds, dogs and more. Many of these animals have been rescued for different reasons. A monkey named Billi is extremely cute and he loves to play around with the cats. A few days ago I got the news that Billi had been killed! Someone had snuck into the property and given Billie a poisoned snack. In the morning they found him dead. Very tragic and cruel. In the recent time also dogs have been poisoned and birds stolen. I have a hard time to understand the minds of the people who act this way no matter what is behind the act. In this case it is most certainly a jealousy issue since all the neighbors liked Billie and the other animals and often helped out. I know that this is a problem that occur all over the country and the reason poison are being used is to stay free from responsibility with the thought that the animal make the decision to eat the poison himself. I feel very sad for those animals who suffer this cruel dead that often involve a lot of pain. Of course most people does not approve of this kind of behavior but it is often hard to know who is behind the cruel act. I hope that they can protect the rest of the animals in some way.

A less serious problem is that Tesco again have not had chicken in many days, we just arrived home from the store and now that we have this Tesco store around the corner the lazy side of us kicks in and we do not want to go all the way to Tesco in Chaweng. Why they have chicken filets every day is strange. So tonight we will eat tuna instead.

The weather today has been ok. In the morning the sky had more blue parts than white but with the time the white clouds spread out but no rain have fallen. Strange mosquito attacks comes sometimes and suddenly I find several bites on my body. Since these multiple bites comes at the time I wonder if there is one mosquito who eats from all over my body or if they attack in flock. Today it happened only time, I got five bites which started to itch at the exact same time. Anyway there are not many mosquitoes compared to what I have seen on many other places. If you just close the door a few hours in the evening we do not have more than a few ones that enter through the bathroom where there are no windows that can be completely closed.

Have a great weekend.

An Awful Lot Of Rain

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Wednesday, November 18, 2009

The rain has been falling most of the day. I guess I should not have written that I did not think the rain would come this year. The frogs are happy and their song makes a 3D sound almost surreal with many different kind of quack sounds along with other animal sounds. The day has been spent inside except a short run down town.

Yesterday night they said at the news that we would be able to see a lot of shooting stars from midnight and to early morning. Even though we had a cloudy day the night was perfectly clear and I went outside at about 1 o'clock. I had only been looking up to the sky for a few minutes when I saw a very sharp "star" falling with a long bright tail. But after that i did not see any more. I probably stood there for about 10 minutes or so, so I am happy I got so see at least one. The day before I had been to the gym training my back and shoulders and my neck got stiff very fast from looking straight up in the sky, so those 10 minutes were enough.

Now it is booked that the 21:st January we will head up to Bangkok to pick up Nala, my dog and my friend Jessica. At that time I have not seen Nala in 9 month and I think she will be extremely happy to see me again and that will be mutual. It is a long drive that starts with the almost 2 hour boat trip that is really a killer since you have to wait by the ferry for probably 2 hours in the very early morning or late night to have the luck to catch the second ferry. Probably we will spend one night at Nui's parents in Bangkok and maybe we will go one day before so that we get one extra day there. This day might be spent doing some shopping since Koh Samui is not a very good place for that matter, compared to Bangkok, and since Nui have had clothes stores in Bangkok she know all the wholesalers and she think the prices on Samui are way to high and that they lack all the good looking clothes. We have not made any plans for that yet, only mentioned that it would be fun. But we are quiet sure about spending one extra day in Bangkok.

Then we will drive back down to Surat Thani during the night and probably catch the first boat back to Samui in the morning. The day after I will have to go to Malaysia to say hello to the guys at the border, this dreadful trip will not be better after having spent some days in a car already but is has to be done and whining about it does not help.

Friendly Lady And Finally Some Rain

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Dog Friend

I woke up, very early I though. Tried to sleep but soon realized it is far better to stay awake and make the day longer so I went up. Hmm, the clock was 11 sharp, Nui still slept. The weather were bad and I remember that I heard rain while I slept earlier. For the moment it was not raining but it was a lot of clouds on the sky. I started to work and Nui came to life very soon after and went to Tesco to do some shopping. She had only been away for a minute when the rain started to poor. After about an hour she came back home. She had forgotten the raincoat so she was soaking wet. One minute after she went inside the rain stopped, tough luck.

We ate and decided to do more research about finding that perfect land. We took off and minutes later the rain came again, we laughed about it because it was really ridiculous. We took shelter under a roof where a guy that we spoke to a few days ago lives but he was not home. When the worst rain was over we went to a house close by and started to talk to a very polite lady. First we just asked bout land and if she knew any one who might have land for sale in the area that we wanted and we ended up staying for a couple of hours. She really liked us and we liked her too, genuinely polite. She had a younger brother who had been married to a Swedish girl and also had a teenage boy with her. They were now divorced and the boy lived in Sweden with his mom. At first I sat just listened and after a while I added some things to what she said and asked some questions. She got extremely surprised because she did not know that I understood what she had been talking about and then she became even more friendly to me since we could speak as well. Often I feel like a ghost and I really have to fight to be seen by both men and women when we spontaneously speak to people. Sometimes people turn to Nui to answer a question that I asked in Thai, very frustrating. That is not the case with most Thai people in the tourist sector. Anyway the lady was upset because her brothers son did not speak much Thai at all and she though that was very sad.

If we are lucky she will also be able to help us with land, she made a few phone calls while we spoke and now we have to wait and see what happens. Speaking to nice people can make the complete day different, and even though most people are friendly there are many different levels and also so much more behind this genuine friendliness.

In the afternoon we suddenly had a guest right outside the door. The you dog that came one time before were back. We fed him with some candy that he only ate when I made very small pieces and gave him and rice was not food enough for him. I then gave him some slices of bread and that he liked that much I had to tell him to show manners, he totally understand that I am friendly and even goes inside the house to look around and as the picture shows he was quiet satisfied when he sat on the inside just taking a peak on what was happening outside.

PS: I really need to buy a new camera, this Sony cyber-shot is far from what I expected, not least the sharpness of the pixels which are extremely blurry.

I Want To Find That Land

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Monday, November 16, 2009

Finding a good plot is not a very easy thing to do, that is for sure. However it can be very fun if one do not have any time pressure and that is exactly what I have. Maybe most of the time pressure is psychological and not something that is completely real. I guess most of the pressure comes from that I thought i would found a plot already. Today we went looking at a few more plots. Unfortunately all of the owners had used the "fantasy cap" as I want to call the fact that they have prices that is just crazy. Some people also say something like -last year it was 200 000 bath more expensive.

Well, you still have the land as the other 2000 people with land around here, I think for my self. Some people have had the land for sale for many years. The fact that the value of something is, according to me, what a costumer is willing to pay might not be relevant here, and it is obvious that the prices in many cases are way to high. Some people have had the luck to find someone that either does not matter or without a clue. But as I think I have said before, the owner in many cases do not care if he sell the land or not, he do not need more money and can wait.

I anyway think that we will find something suitable soon, I am not giving up, that I never do. On Saturday we also went looking at the land that I had already seen with our neighbor, but it really is set to far away so that one is out of the question, otherwise if was good. Sometimes I still think that it might be better to buy the land that we have seen a few km from Lamai, that land is the double size for the same price, but the next minute i think that it is far better with great location and still have an OK garden.

The weather has been good, it has not been raining anything at all and the sky has been both blue and white. Now I do not wait for the rain no more, I really think that the monsoon went on vacation some where else this year.
