Palmtree Samui Beaches

Chaweng Beach

The most popular beach on Koh Samui is called Had Chaweng and is located on the island's east coast. On the six kilometer long beach, you find many hotels and cozy resorts. Chaweng Beach Road is perfect for those who appreciate shopping, nightlife and good food.

Even a good golf course and the airport are in relatively close distances. You can find many dive schools here as well as, thai boxing, internet cafes, tailors, etc., and many exquisite restaurants. There are a number of beach activities found here such as jet ski, which is available for rent across the beach. So-called banana boats (after a speedboat) is also popular. Another activity is parasailing after motorboat which involves a ride high above the water and you will have a fantastic view of Chaweng. It is also possible to rent a catamaran, a canoe or go water skiing, wakeboarding and windsurfing.

Lamai Beach

The second most popular beach on Samui is called Had Lamai and is located south of Chaweng on the east coast. The beach is almost paradise beautiful, especially the southern part. The number of tourists is slightly less here than in Chaweng but there are a couple of discos and many small bars and pubs. Lamai beach also offers a variety of water sports such as jet ski, water skiing, Wakeboarding, windsurfing, parasailing and you can also rent motorboats for private tours.

Bo Phut Beach

Bo Phut beach is about three kilometers long and has a relatively fine-grained sand and coconut palm trees at its side. Here you can really feel calm and just unwind for a superb view over Koh Phangan and the Gulf of Thailand.

Before the tourists began to discover Koh Samui, Bo Phut was a small fishing village and still there are fishing boats and fishermen active here. But it is not just fishing boats departing from Bo Phut. Nowadays, there are also motorboats with divers and tourists who wants to take a tour around the island.

Bo Phut is also located near the island's airport and very close to one of the ferry harbors whose ferries depart regularly to Koh Phangan. In the evening, when it's time to eat dinner, Bo Phut have many cozy restaurants to choose from, which serve fresh seafood, fish or a steak.

It is possible to rent jet skis, snorkeling gear, kayaks and other water activity gear. If you are into relaxation, you just lie down and bask in the sun, take it easy and order a drink or fruit juice from one of the restaurants along the beach.

Maenam beach

Maenam, or Mae Nam, which is an alternate spelling, is located in northern parts of Koh Samui, near the beach Bo Phut. Maenam's beach is about five kilometers long and is a very popular haunt for surfers. Here you can rent a surfboard in some of the hotels. When tourists began to come to Koh Samui, Maenam was one of the few beaches that could offer hotels by the sea.

This is an excellent destination to holiday in if you have children or if you just want to take it easy, without interference from a lot of loud music from bars, etc. In some parts of the beach, it gets rather deep quickly, so if you have children, do not to loose sight of them. Maenam is close to Samui's finest golf course Santiburi Golf and Country Club and also close to the ferry that takes you to Koh Phangan. The airport, Samui Airport, is also located a relatively short taxi ride from the beach.

Beaches in the South

In the southern part of Koh Samui, you will find Thong Krut, Bang Kao and Hua Thanon. These three beaches are also well worth a visit. If you do not live in any of these three beaches, we recommend a day trip there and take this opportunity to visit a waterfall, zoo, monkey show, or temple, etc. on the way.

Beaches in the West

On the western side of Samui, you'll find Taling Ngam. While this beach is clearly worth a visit because the sunset from here is magnificent. Lipa Noi and Bang Por are two other nice beaches in the northwest part of Samui. Both are often not so crowded (especially in low season), which means that they have retained the charm and paradise-mark which many aspire. Excellent for day trips and a family picnic. Lipa Noi has also very shallow water which makes it suitable for children and families. A marina has been planned in the area, but nothing seems clear at the time of writing.
